Compounding Pharmacies Customize Medications For People Struggling With Seasonal Allergies

Everyone is familiar with the common symptoms of seasonal allergies, and just how miserable they can make the people who suffer from them. Whether it is drippy noses, aching heads, tender throats, sneezing, or dry and irritated eyes, pollen allergies make it hard to live our lives the way we want to. While it’s true that there are countless over-the-counter and prescription medications that will relieve the symptoms, not enough people are aware that sterile compounding pharmacies can consult with your doctor to create specialized and customized medicines that get to the underlying cause of your allergies.

The two main allergy seasons begin in spring and autumn. These are the times of year that a large number of trees and grasses start the pollination process. Allergies can flare up in reaction to all that pollen, in addition to dust, mildew, and mold spores. Two of the most common remedies are to steer clear of whatever is triggering the allergic reaction, and to treat it with medicine. However neither of these options are ideal, nor often, even possible. After all, it’s simply not feasible to remain inside all the time, and allergy medications frequently come with a stack of side effects, including drowsiness, dry and inflamed nose and eyes, and an unpleasant feeling of being either spacey or wired.

Compounding pharmacies, on the other hand, can tailor drug dosage amounts to each person’s body weight and tolerance levels in order to minimize such side effects, making the medicine more effective, and lessening side effects. Specialty pharmacies can also produce these drugs in numerous delivery systems, including gummies, lozenges, dissolving tablets, sublingual drops and tinctures.

Most allergy medicines merely treat the symptoms, but some of the medicines available from compounding pharmacies actually address their underlying causes. In some instances, the treatment contains a minute amount of the irritant itself, and is administered to people in small doses that are gradually increased until a tolerance to the allergy-causing substance builds up. Many people have found long-term relief from their allergies this way.

Specialty pharmacies work with doctors and allergists to diligently monitor their patients in order to be sure that each individual is receiving the correct medications in suitable amounts in a way that works best for them, and that he or she is responding well. This is better care than you will generally get from your neighborhood pharmacy.

Compounding Pharmacies Work Together With Dermatologists In The Fight Against Acne

While it’s frequently thought to be an issue strictly for teens, acne can affect adults too. No matter a person’s age, going to a dermatologist is necessary to get a prescription for treatment of the skin ailment. Lotions, creams and pills are generally prescribed by the specialists, but many people don’t know that there is a very good alternative to the one-size-fits-all approach of a conventional pharmacy. Compounding pharmacies all over the country create customized solutions to acne medication with an eye toward individual needs and preferences.

A very common skin condition, acne is characterized by different kinds of blemishes including scaly red skin, pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, and even scarring in some instances. It does occur most frequently during puberty, but it can still trouble people well into their adult lives. Along with its physical difficulties such as itchiness, swelling and pain, acne has psychological ramifications as well. It can contribute to low self-esteem, social insecurity and even depression in some people.

Although there are things individuals can do to fight acne naturally, such as avoiding certain foods, using pore-cleansing face cleansers and avoiding the use of comedogenic makeup (makeup that can clog pores and trigger further acne flare-ups), for most people it’s purely a matter of hormones. In most cases, acne clears up or decreases substantially by one’s early twenties, but not always. For that reason, many people choose treatment over the wait-it-out strategy. Dermatological solutions are, in many cases, very effective in managing the condition. However, not all prescription drugs are created equal.

In contrast to traditional pharmacists who fill prescriptions with mass-produced medications, specialty pharmacies offer personalized medicines. Mass-produced and over-the-counter drugs often contain dyes, fragrances, preservatives and other nonessential ingredients that can have a very negative impact on a person’s acne. At a compounding pharmacy, medications are made only with the components essential to treat the skin disorder. This makes it the ideal choice for anyone with allergies or incredibly sensitive skin. It is in the best interest of dermatologists to work with pharmacies that offer compounded medications, as they prove very useful to their patients.

Customized acne medications include face cleansers, lotions, toners, creams and gels that are applied topically. These will be specially developed to suit one’s specific body chemistry, taking any sensitivity issues or allergies into consideration. Moreover, the pharmacy can create pills engineered to adjust or balance the hormonal levels, which can, in turn, decrease the production of acne-causing oil.

Compounding pharmacies might even save patients money. Many OTC and mass-produced prescription drugs are patented and thus generate more profits for manufacturers. Specialty pharmacies, however, can use generic versions of the same drugs that are, typically, much less expensive. Another reason for the lower cost is that multiple drugs can be incorporated in a single pill, ointment or other treatment vehicle.

Other customizable medicines include those for eczema, psoriasis, fungal growths, diaper rash, and even anti-aging wrinkle creams. Regardless of the issue, a compounding pharmacy likely provides a better alternative to OTC and mass-produced prescription medication. Designed to work with a person’s very specific needs, people generally see quicker, more satisfactory results with compounded acne medications.

Let Your Kids Grow Up in a Healthy Environment

“Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing is like shoveling the walk before it  stops snowing.”  ~Phyllis Diller, Phyllis Diller’s Housekeeping Hints, 1966

Phyllis Diller certainly had a way with words. However, there is some truth to what she says. Before you are finished cleaning up after your children they have already started making the next mess. But that’s healthy; part of growing up is making a mess that someone else will clean up. Soon enough they will be the ones doing the clean up.

As parents we have to make sure the big things are taken care of and that our children have a safe and healthy environment to grow up in. Along that line of thinking you would not leave something out in the open in your home that could hurt your children…or do you? Are you aware of the amount of germs, bacteria, mold, mildew and even dust mites and other allergens that are in your home? This does not mean you don’t clean your home well, but it may mean that you are not cleaning it correctly.

When it comes to cleaning your home you want to make sure that the things that can hurt your children or make them ill are taken care of. That includes eliminating things like allergens, bacteria, germs, viruses, mold and mildew the best you can while cleaning. It also means not introducing anything while you are cleaning that could hurt them, such as, chemical-based cleaners.

Is there an easier way to clean without chemical-based cleaners while reducing allergens, germs, viruses, mold and mildew more effectively than with chemical-based cleaners? Of course, try using a steam cleaner.

Steam cleaners clean using only water heated to at least 212° F creating a steam vapor that can get into more cracks and crevices than chemical-based cleaners and, as a result, clean, sanitize and disinfect more thoroughly than chemical-based cleaners. And steam cleaners do not leave any residue behind like chemical-based cleaners that could irritate your skin and cause allergic reactions. Since there is no residue with a steam cleaner surfaces tend to stay cleaner longer.

The heat produced by a steam cleaner will kill most germs and viruses commonly found in the home as well as killing allergens like dust mites. Have you ever noticed that you or your family may feel fine during the day but when you go to bed at night you begin to exhibit allergy symptoms like a stuffy nose and sometimes sneezing and red, watery eyes. That could be because the average mattress has anywhere from 100,000 to 10 million dust mites in them. Pillows also have a very large number of dust mites. Treating mattresses and pillows with a steam cleaner will drastically reduce the number of dust mites and alleviate some of your allergy symptoms.

So make sure you keep your home safe and clean for your kids. Not only do they deserve the chance to play and grow in a safe and clean environment, they will learn from your example and make sure they do the same for their children when it is there turn.

Dogs, Grout and Steam Cleaners

Do you have a dog? We have a dog…he’s a 15-year-old Beagle with a bum knee and a great disposition. His name is Bailey and he has become a loved member of our family.

We got him about six months after moving into our newly built house and he had more than one “accident” on our kitchen floor. Actually, he had so many accidents when he was “in training” that the beautiful grout in the tile floor of the kitchen did not stay beautiful for very long.

Our children were also quite young when we moved into the new house and they required a lot of attention like most young children. With all of the attention we paid to the kids and the dog we soon lost track of the grout in the kitchen. When we finally took the time to look down it was a mess.

That is when we first discovered steam cleaners. We were trying to clean the grout with chemical-based cleaners but they never really got deep down into the grout to thoroughly clean it. In addition, they left a residue that seemed to be attracting new dirt to the grout.

We investigated alternative ways to clean grout other than using chemical-based cleaners and we ran across steam cleaners. Since steam cleaners use only water heated to at least 212° F there was no concern about the residue from chemical-based cleaners, steam vapor does not leave a residue. Also, the steam vapor is able to penetrate the grout and get into areas that chemical-based cleaners just cannot. Steam cleaners also kill bacteria, germs, mold and mildew so we did not have to worry about the dog and the kids rolling around on the floor.

Because of the condition of the grout it did take a few applications to restore it to a clean condition but once we were finished it looked great again. When we completed the grout we began to experiment with other surfaces in the house and we found that our new steam cleaner cleaned almost everything. Floors, countertops, sinks and faucet, shower stalls and tubs were all cleaned better and more thoroughly than we had expected.

We also use our steam cleaner to clean and sanitize our mattresses and pillows, upholstery, drapes and carpets. Most people don’t realize that the average mattress has between 100,000 and 10 million dust mites and they can really bother your allergies and rob you of sleep. Cleaning your mattress and pillows with a steam cleaner and vacuuming these surfaces after steaming them can significantly improve your sleep time.

Little did we know that our cute little Beagle Bailey would lead us to the best cleaning appliance we have ever used…a steam cleaner.

Outdoor Sports Kicks Up the Allergens in Cars

Some of us seem to spend a great deal of time inside of our cars. Recent statistics show that the average North American spends three hours a day in the car. At least one out of every five Americans has allergies. Those of us that suffer from allergies and spend that much time in the car would benefit from having good air quality within the car.

Outdoor sports are a huge contributor to poor air quality inside the car. You may not even realize the amount and kinds of allergens that are transported into our cars while chauffeuring your children to and from sporting events.

Simple Fact: Some of the outdoor allergens that can aggravate our allergies include grasses, ragweed, pollen, hay, mold and mildew. Our children play outdoor sports on grass fields, dirt mounds, stables and horseback riding rings where these allergens live and breed. These allergies cannot be controlled short of staying inside or through medications. You may think that by being inside your car you would be guarded from the effects of these and other allergens. That is far from the truth.

Simple Solution: One of the reasons you clean your home with a steam cleaner is to help control and eliminate allergens that irritate your allergies. Why not do the same for the inside of your car where allergens can have a serious effect on your allergies?

Allergens creep into cars via sneakers, cleats, clothing, bats and balls, helmets, riding boots and sports bags that are used while participating in outdoor sports. Once your child leaves the sports field they are not leaving the allergens behind. They bring the allergens into your car and they stay long after your children and their equipment are out of the car. Now the allergens are embedded into the carpet and on the surface of the seat as well as in the trunk and on the steering wheel of the car. These allergens must be effectively cleaned from the car or they will continue to affect your allergies. If not, they can cause negative effects on the allergy sufferers’ performance at school, work and at the sport itself.

One very effective way to clean the inside of your car from allergens is by means of a steam vapor cleaner. Steam cleaners use nothing but water to clean and they are capable of cleaning almost any surface in your car. Using only small amounts of water steam cleaners reach temperatures in excess of 212° F to clean, sanitize and disinfect almost any surface without the use of chemicals. Steam cleaners are safer and easier to use then chemical-based cleaners. Also, they take less effort because the steam vapor does most of the cleaning for you.

There are a variety of steam cleaners available on the market that will work quite nicely in the car. In fact there are steam cleaners on the market that are also vacuum cleaners. Steam vacuums are an allergy sufferers’ dream machine. They offer incredible suction for fast and easy vacuuming then turn into steam cleaners with the flip of a switch. The Vapamore Model MR50 Steam/Vac is a convenient sized model for use in the car.

Kick the dust and allergens out of the car with a steam cleaner and make your outdoor sports more enjoyable.

Keeping Your College Coed Healthy

As parents we all worry about our children’s health and wellbeing especially when they are away from our supervision. However, the time comes when they want to go out and live on their own. We can only hope that some of the things that we have taught them along the way in terms of personal hygiene and keeping their living environment clean and orderly has rubbed off on them.

We have equipped them over the years with the proper tools of education to help them in life. Why not equip them with the proper tools to maintain a healthy living environment? Why not educate them on that simple basic need? I am sure they have heard about what foods their bodies need to stay healthy. How much do they know about cleaning? Do they know that chemical free cleaning is healthier for them and their environment?

Recently I visited a group of college coeds who are five in number living together in a small apartment for the first time. When I arrived much to my surprise and pleasure the apartment was spick and span and looked clean and orderly. That was a big improvement from the first time I had visited. The five coeds were very proud of themselves, as was I. Unfortunately, by the time I was ready to leave for home my head was stuffy, my nose was itchy and I ended up sneezing for the next three days.

When I asked the girls what they used to clean their apartment I began to realize why I was feeling congested & itchy and why I was sneezing. They told me they bought sponges, a bucket, a mop and lots of chemical-based cleaners. Like many people I have allergies to chemical-based cleaners, not only to the residue they leave behind and the fumes they put in the air but they also irritate my skin. If I had helped the coeds clean the skin on my hands would have cracked and gotten irritated.

There is a solution to their cleaning problems that would not only help people with allergies to chemical-based cleaners like mine but would also do a much better job of cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting their apartment. Using a steam cleaner will eliminate the need for chemical-based cleaners and the problems they cause.

Steam cleaners use a small amount of water that is heated to at least 212° F to create a steam vapor that cleans, disinfects and sanitizes. No chemical-based cleaners are needed, just water. Steam cleaners are effective on many different surfaces including floors, countertops, sinks, faucets, etc. However, steam cleaners go far beyond just those surfaces.

Steam cleaners are excellent for use on mattresses, draperies, upholstery and carpeting. These are the places where dust mites and bed bugs live and bread. Steam cleaners make easy work of killing these pests. Dust mites in particular wreak havoc on allergies and they can be found everywhere. It is estimated that the average mattress has anywhere from 100,000 to 10 million dust mites living in them.

Why not invest in a tool that will help your children stay healthier.  A Steamboy T2 steam mop is a good place to start.  You may eliminate buying chemically based cleaners as well as doctor office visits and medicines for colds and allergies.

You will sleep better knowing your children are living in a healthier environment.

How Can You Avoid Preservatives in Foods?

“We are living in a world today where lemonade is made from artificial flavors and furniture polish is made from real lemons.” ~Alfred E. Newman

Now, Alfred E. has come up with some good ones in his day but this one rings much too true. Have you every looked at the labels of the food you buy at the grocery store? There are so many preservatives and food additives in much of our food today that you would think it would last forever. The problem is those preservatives and additives end up in your family’s stomachs and that can be harmful.

Unfortunately, in this day and age it is almost impossible to eliminate all of the preservatives and chemicals in our foods, however, you should try to introduce foods that are free of these harmful substances as much as possible and limit the foods that contain them.

Simple Fact: According to LiveStrong.com “People today consume a lot more processed food than they used to. This type of food may be fast and convenient, but not all the ingredients are healthy to eat. Although food preservatives help keep food from spoiling, some types of preservatives may lead to health problems, especially in those with certain conditions. Read ingredient labels to see which preservatives are in the food on your pantry shelves.”

Simple Solution: There are many ways that you can avoid having preservatives and additives in your food. Try making more of the ingredients you use in cooking and prepare more raw foods for your family. That may sound difficult but it really is not. With the proper tools in your kitchen you can eliminate quite a bit of the food you buy in your local grocery store. As a result, you will eliminate the preservatives and additives that are in those foods.

There are many small appliances available today that will assist you in preparing healthier foods for your family. For instance, you can make your own flour right using a home grain mill or, if you are lactose intolerant or just prefer soymilk you can make it in your own soymilk maker. One of the best grain mills for home use is the Wolfgang Grain Mill and a Soyabella soymilk maker is excellent for home use.

If you have a quality juicer you can introduce raw foods into your diet but that is not all. Most quality juicers are also food processors that can make pastas, nut butters, baby foods, frozen fruit sorbet and soymilk. You can also grind coffee in most good juicers like the Samson Green Power KPE-1304 Juicer.

Let your imagination guide you in reducing the amount of preservatives and food additives your family and you consume. Visit some online stores to look at some of the small kitchen appliances that are available to help you in this endeavor. If you try, you will find that eating healthy is a lot easier and more delicious than you might have expected.

The Need for a Good Breakfast

I am not a morning person…never have been and never will be. I like to grab that extra 15 to 30 minutes of sleep in the morning with the TV turned to Fox News or CNBC. Both stations seem to make more sense when you hear them through the fog of being half awake and half asleep.

The only problem with taking that extra time to wake-up in the morning is I never have time for a good breakfast. Like everyone else in this work-a-day world I have a schedule to keep (or should I admit that my schedule keeps me). I know…if I brought the structure of my schedule into my personal life I would be much better off. But that is just not me and I will have to deal with my breakfast issues. Skipping breakfast isn’t that bad anyway, is it?

Simple Fact: Actually, according to WebMD, “If you and your kids regularly skip breakfast in the interest of saving time or getting a few more minutes of sleep, remember that eating a wholesome, nutritious morning meal will probably save you time in the long run. By recharging your brain and your body, you’ll be more efficient in just about everything you do.”

Simple Solution: Have a quick and nutritious breakfast even if you don’t have much time. Try making a delicious breakfast that includes fresh fruit, protein, fiber and milk (I prefer home made soymilk but more about that at a later date). Put all of the above ingredients in a personal blender and you can have a delicious and nutritious breakfast made in about 5 minutes.

Personal blenders, like the Tribest Personal Blender, can help you prepare a breakfast that will not only give you the nourishment you need to start your day it will taste good as well. And they container used by the Tribest Personal Blender has a travel lid so you can just take it with you where ever your travels take you (although we don’t suggest drinking your smoothie if you are driving…there are enough distractions).

Here are some great recipes for smoothie for your new Tribest Personal Blender. Not only can you enjoy these for a quick start breakfast they are also excellent as a healthy treat at night and your kids will enjoy them any time you make them. With a Tribest Personal Blender your children will be eating health and they won’t even know it.

Your Tribest Personal Blender will not limit you to just smoothies. Try some of these delicious soup recipes, you will be surprised how good healthy tastes!

How to Get Your Family to Eat Fruits and Vegetables

We all know how hard it is to get our children, and even our spouses, to eat the correct number of daily servings of fruits and vegetables. We eat a quick breakfast like a muffin, a bagel with cream cheese or, maybe, a bowl of cereal because we would rather sleep that extra 15 to 30 minutes in the morning. Depending on the brand the cereal may have some nutritional value but probably no fruits or vegetables.

I remember when you could at least count on your children’s school to provide a good meal for our kids once a day, however, even that has changed. Many schools are offering Domino’s pizza or other fast foods that have little or no nutritional benefits. And, as adults, we are always so busy that we don’t take the time to eat a wholesome lunch.

That leaves dinner as our last meal to get the benefits of fruits and vegetables. However, what do we usually do at dinnertime for fruits and vegetables? In my home we usually open a bag of frozen corn or a can of string beans to accompany our dinner. Unfortunately, even if we eat them there is almost no nutritional value to frozen or canned vegetables.

Of course we are saved in the evening because everyone likes a big bowl of fruit for a treat while watching television, right? Not quite, it is usually ice cream or cake or pie and the fruit in a pie is not going to complete our daily requirement for fruits and vegetables.

Simple Fact: The FDA says the average child ages 2 to 6 requires 3 servings of vegetables and 2 servings of fruit per day while older children and most men and women require 4 servings of vegetables and 3 servings of fruit. For teen-age boys and active men the suggestion is 5 and 4 servings respectively of each vegetables and fruit.

Simple Solution: Juicing! Using a good juicer you can make delicious and nutritious drinks that will not only get your family the proper servings of fruits and vegetables every day, your family will enjoy them because they are tasty and easy to drink.

There are plenty of different kinds of juicers on the market and we will look into them in more depth sometime in the future, however, suffice it to say that a good juicer will help you correct the problem of not getting enough fruits and vegetables in your daily diet.

You may be surprised at some of the combinations that make a nutritious and delicious drink. Have you ever considered combining apples and cucumbers? That may not sound so good but combined they make a rather tasty and very healthy drink. Add in some spinach and maybe a carrot or two and you will be well on the way to better health through juicing.

Just click here to find some recipes that should satisfy your entire family. By clicking here you will find an array of some excellent juicers that will fit all budgets.
